How to Make a Bread Bowl

Bread bowls have become a popular way to serve a bowl of hot soup. The best part is you can eat the bowl after you finish the soup. Although they look difficult to make, the truth is they're quite easy to create from a store bought loaf of round bread. Here's how to make a bread bowl.
Instructions

1.
Step 1

To make a bread bowl, it's simplest to buy a small loaf of round bread at your local supermarket or bread store. Choose a bread loaf the same size as you'd like your bread bowl to be.
2.
Step 2

Once you have your round loaf of bread, use a sharp knife to cut across the entire surface of the bread about an inch-and-a-half from the top. Discard the smaller top piece and lay the larger, lower portion of the round loaf on a flat surface.
3.
Step 3

To make a bread bowl, use a sharp knife to carefully cut a circle into the loaf, leaving about an inch margin along the edges to serve as the sides of the bowl.
4.
Step 4

Carefully remove the bread within the boundaries of the circle. You can use a knife to do this, but it's easier to use your hands to pull out pieces of bread until the interior is hollowed out and you have a basic bowl shape.
5.
Step 5

Your bread bowl is now ready to hold your chosen soup or stew. Keep in mind that homemade bread bowls are best used for serving thicker, cream based soups. Thin, watery soups will make the bread soggy and weaken the structure of the bowl.
